INTRODUCTION
Where the cable route is already protected — inside conduits, ducts, trays, risers, and panels — armour adds weight, diameter, and cost without adding value. Pymen Cables manufactures a complete range of unarmoured cables for exactly these installations: XLPE insulated to IS 7098 (Part 1) and PVC insulated to IS 1554 (Part 1), with copper and aluminium conductors ranging from 1.5 sq. mm to 630 sq. mm, for systems up to and including 1100 V.
Smaller overall diameter. Lighter drums. A tighter bending radius and faster installation. The same conductor, the same insulation, and the same testing discipline that goes into our armoured cables — with the steel left off where the installation does not call for it.
XLPE Insulated Unarmoured Cables — IS 7098 (Part 1)
XLPE insulation operates at a higher continuous conductor temperature than PVC, so the same cross-section can carry more current. Without armour, the cable is slimmer and lighter still — this combination allows designers to pack more capacity into a congested tray or a full conduit.
- Copper or aluminium conductors, 1.5 sq. mm to 630 sq. mm, 1100 V grade.
- Single-core, two-core, three-core, three-and-a-half-core, four-core, and multi-core constructions.
- 90°C continuous conductor temperature; 250°C short-circuit rating.
- Higher current-carrying capacity and lower losses than a PVC cable of the same size.
- Cross-linked insulation resists deformation under heat, maintaining its form at terminations and in tightly bunched runs.
PVC Insulated Unarmoured Cables — IS 1554 (Part 1)
The dependable workhorse of protected-route distribution. Heavy-duty PVC insulation, easy to strip and terminate, stable over a long service life, and the most economical choice where operating temperatures are moderate.
- Copper or aluminium conductors, 1.5 sq. mm to 630 sq. mm, 1100 V grade.
- Single-core, two-core, three-core, three-and-a-half-core, four-core, and multi-core constructions.
- Type A general-purpose PVC rated at 70°C, and Type C heat-resistant PVC rated at 85°C.
- Clean stripping and straightforward termination, reducing jointing time on site.
CONSTRUCTION
- Conductors made of electrolytic-grade annealed copper or H4-grade aluminium<, stranded and compacted to form a smooth, round core for easy termination.
- XLPE or PVC insulation, extruded to close tolerances for uniform wall thickness.
- Cores are colour-coded and laid up with non-hygroscopic fillers to form a firm, circular assembly.
- Outer sheath of high-grade PVCextruded directly over the laid-up cores, providing a compact overall diameter and a cable that pulls easily through conduits.
- FR, FRLS, and ZHFR sheathing compounds available on customer request.
- Embossed identification and sequential length marking on every metre.
- No steel armour means no magnetic losses — the natural choice for single-core cables on AC systems.
